  • Are your tours ethical?
Yes — everything we do is designed to benefit local people, protect cultural heritage, and minimize environmental harm.
  • How do you care for the environment?
We offset the carbon footprint of every trip, plant a tree for each guest, and provide a reusable LifeStraw bottle to cut down on plastic waste.
  • Why don’t you visit the Mursi tribe?
Sadly, tourism has negatively impacted the Mursi — encouraging aggression, drinking, and unhealthy dynamics. We avoid visits that harm communities or feel performative. Instead, we focus on tribes open to genuine, respectful exchange. We are looking into more remote options for Mursi that are safe and ethical so we may offer these in the future.
  • How do you support local communities?
10% of every tour payment funds grassroots projects in the communities you visit — like education, clean water, and income-generation initiatives.
  • Do you work with local tribal guides?
Absolutely. Your journey is co-led by both expert English-speaking guides and local tribal guides who share their culture with you firsthand.
  • Are your tours private or group-based?
Our tours are private unless you request a shared or backpacker-style group (up to 8 people).
  • Do you offer group discounts?
Yes! Per-person prices are lower for groups of 4 or more.
  • Can I add other destinations like Lalibela or the Simien Mountains?
Yes — we offer optional add-ons to incredible places all over Ethiopia. See our Locations Add-Ons page for ideas.
  • What’s the booking process like?
We learn about your preferences and send a custom itinerary and quote. You get a chance to alter then confirm and secure your spot with a deposit. We handle all logistics and offer personal pre-travel support.
  • How far in advance should I book?
We recommend booking 3–6 months in advance for the best availability. However, last-minute trips can sometimes be arranged — just get in touch. We also take bookings for 1 year + in advance.
  • What kind of accommodation is included?
Choose from high-end eco-lodges (roughly 3-star UK equivalent) or comfortable, authentic guesthouses. You can also spend a night camping in a traditional Hamar village if you’d like!
  • Can children or older travellers join?
Absolutely — we welcome all ages and adjust the pace accordingly.
  • What’s the transport like?
You’ll travel in private, air-conditioned 4x4 vehicles. A budget-friendly vehicle option is available if you prefer to reduce costs.
  • Is the tour physically demanding?
We’ll tailor the trip to your comfort and ability. Some drives are long and roads can be bumpy, but we build in breaks and flexibility. Our standard tours include some short hikes, 15 - 30 min hikes but these can be swapped out depending on your availpreferences. Just let us know your accessibility requirements and we will work around you.
  • Is it safe to travel to Ethiopia?
Yes - Our Hamar and South Omo tours, along with the Harar (Hyena feeding) excursion, are located completely in politically stable "green zones." These regions have remained peaceful for many years, and we don't anticipate any changes to their safety status. In fact, we live in the South of Ethiopia for most of the year. Currently some of the North are labelled as 'red zones' and some are 'amber zones' by the FCDO (UK Government). We have alternative tour routes that completely avoid the red zones and only go to Amber. It's worth noting that tourists are still visiting sites in the "red zones," while being aware of the risks. Regardless of zone classification, we always prioritize guest safety. Before visiting any location, we consult with our local contacts to assess the current situation. We can't predict when things will improve in the North although there is currently a lot of hope in the country that the government and the rebels will be in discussions soon. We monitor the situation and will make sure to keep you in the loop if you have a booking. Please get in contact with us if you have any more questions.
  • Are tourists still visiting Ethiopia?
Yes — many areas are still open to tourism. We check with our local contacts before each trip to confirm safety, and guest wellbeing is always our top priority. Red zones are still also being visited by tourists who don't mind taking on calculated risk.
  • What are ‘red zones’ and should I worry?
The UK’s FCDO often uses broad terms. Our tour areas remain politically stable and peaceful. We never visit red zones, and if a location’s status changes, we offer full cancellation or alternative plans.
  • What’s your cancellation policy?
For cancellations due to “red zone” updates: Up to 1 month before: Full refund Up to 2 weeks before: Full refund, minus non-refundable hotels or internal flights
  • How much does it cost?
Every tour is custom, but as a guide: A 7-night private tour for two people in high-end lodges typically costs around £2,700. • Do you help with international flight booking?
We can assist with international flights but you should book them yourself.
  • What should I pack?
Once you book, we’ll send a detailed packing list that covers clothing, weather, cultural tips, and health advice.

Yes — most nationalities can apply online. We provide guidance and are happy to answer your visa questions.
  • Do I need to tip?
Tipping is not expected, but it’s appreciated for excellent service. We ensure our team and partners are paid fairly regardless.
